Short-toed Lark splits

Hi, a bit late but I'm just paying attention to the above on my lists. I have Med ST Lark from Spain & other places already listed but looking back I also had ST Lark in eastern Turkey (Birecik). Should this now be listed as Asian? I assumed the answer to this was yes but I'm unable to add this to my IOC WP list so thought I'd double check.
Many thanks,
Jon

I doubt we've heard the last on Short-toed Lark taxonomy, but the form recognised as occurring in Turkey is split as Turkestan Short-toed Lark A. heinei.

So will the lesser short-toed lark I saw in Andalucia be a medium-toed lark then please?

I guess that's an autocorrect error (!) but yes, this would be Mediterranean Short-toed Lark :-)

Actually, Turkey has both Turkestan and Mediterranean; and one seen in Birecik would most probably be a Mediterranean.

Thanks Kuzey, seems you're right. Just looking on the IOC website & 'Turkestan' seems to be for eastern Turkey, 'Med' for south so I think I'll stick with Med.

Jon, that's correct, but Turkestan isn't just found in the east in Turkey - the majority of the range in Turkey of birds formerly lumped as Lesser Short-toed relates to Turkestan e.g. birds across the whole of the central plateau (previously separated as ssp. niethammeri) are this species too. Mediterranean Short-toed Lark is found in areas such as Birecik in the regions along of the Syrian border, but not more widely (Kuzey will correct me if I'm out of date on this).
