Got to number 1 on the combined British/Irish Iist (BOURC/IRBC) by mid-2008. It would be good to see other high combined listers put their list on bubo so their lists can be viewed/scrutinized as well.

started making bird notes in 2000,descovered internet in 2009,got a telescope in 2010, made a year list effort in 2011 (231),could possibly sign up to being a twitcher in near future.(didn’t happen, it’s 2023)

In the late 1950s and early 1960s I bird-watched with my father (in the picture) and never kept a single list! I took up birding again in 1987, this time in earnest. Most of my birding is done in Essex and Suffolk. My ‘world birding’ is much more restricted nowadays, but between the late 1980s and the late 2000s, I visited: continental Europe; India; SE Asia, including Borneo; Zimbabwe; Ghana; Egypt; Morocco; Trinidad & Tobago; Mexico; Costa Rica; and right across the United States of America, including Alaska. All of this was by independent travel.

Have lived and birded in Cambridgeshire all my life. I run my own ecological consultancy and although a bird specialist, I have worked on taxa including mammals, amphibians. reptiles, invertebrates and vascular plants.
Since mid 1980's a very keen twitcher with most weekends spent in Norfolk in the early days, but started tour leading in 2000 - hence I have missed quite a few key rarities since hitting 500 in 2001.
I am a keen wildife photographer and since going digital in early 2005 I have now amassed some 9000 bird/wildlife images from the UK and from my world travels, a selection of which can be seen on my website. I've now photographed just over 2800 species.
I started travelling further afield in the late 1980's, since then I've visited 56 countries and have an IOC list of over 4000. My aim is to get to 5000 before my 50th Birthday!
The picture of me with a Crimson Rosella on my head was taken by Richard Patient at O'Reilly's in Queensland, Australia in August 2009. Our month-long trip to Oz, PNG and Hong Kong chalked up a combined list of 593. What a fabulous place!
Not much of a twitcher, tending to stay pretty local. More interested in my self-found list, but spells living in Copenhagen and, soon, Brussels, haven't helped my UK listing much!
