I started birdwatching in 1973 after breaking my leg playing soccer. I had 3 months off work and saw a few birds in the garden and that's where it all started. Was seconded to Melbourne for 3 years by the Norwich Union in 1975. Didn't take me long to realise the birds were more plentiful and had actual colours! I'm still here, and since the kids left home, I have become an unashamed twitcher.
