Fantastic. I never expected to be educated as to the evolution of the Ice Dance regulatory framework. Don't you just love birding? Ultimate source of all insights in life.

I may have missed this somewhere 'up-thread', but why are Lesser/Mealy Redpoll still available as separate species on the BUBO- IOC list, but on the spreadsheet downloadable from IOC website, they are lumped again. Am I perhaps not downloading the latest sheet from the IOC, or is something else happening here?

Regards
Mark

I’m a little confused about Redpoll splits I’m afraid having adapted IOC listing, on the British BOU list via IOC, 550 Common Redpoll, 551 Lesser Redpoll, 552 Arctic Redpoll can be ticked.

Same with IOC World List on page 49 - 9773 Common Redpoll, 9774 Lesser Redpoll, 9775 Arctic Redpoll.

But on IOC WP list Redpolls only split into 2 at 938 Common Redpoll (includes Lesser) and 939 Arctic Redpoll.

I appreciate there is much discussion about Redpoll split but surely using the same authority (IOC) there should be consistency?

Mealy and Lesser Redpolls are a fairly recent IOC split (only just predating the BOU switch to IOC) so presumably BOU-based lists and IOC World List have been updated, but the IOC WP List has not?

Thx Julian. I wondered as much.

Presumably something for the Admin to sort out, with updating the WP list then.

Mark - when I look at the latest downloadable list (v8.2) from the IOC website, I see Lesser/Common/Arctic Redpolls as three species. Same as 8.1 and 7.3

Yep, you're right we missed Lesser Redpoll for the IOC WP list - I'll add it now. Sorry!

Many thanks Andy, no criticism inferred.

BUBO is a fantastic creation and site, must be very tough to keep up with changes regards so many lists.

None taken ;) Yes, it can be difficult, and we don't spend as much time on it as we used to (for reasons of time and declining personal interest) but hopefully it's still of use to the community. Always happy to make small corrections though if you point them out.

Sorry to hear that Andy, but as it must take up your voluntarily-given spare time, I can fully understand.

Hi Andy, I would have put money on the fact I was looking at v8.2 last night, but when I look again today I see they are split (as you say)!!! Thanks for clearing that up, and thanks also for the helpful resource that is BUBO.
