IOC updates

I was just wondering when the next round of IOC splits/lumps will be added to the Bubo IOC World list?

When we find time Malcolm. It's always a big job.

These will be happening over the next couple of days. We have made some changes so that taxonomic updates will be automatically applied to your lists where possible, instead of just www.bubo.org/News/taxonomic-updates-in-b...ing.htmlhighlighting these for you to apply yourself .

All lumps will be automatically applied. Splits will be automated where possible. For example Red-eyed Vireo is being split into Red-eyed and Chivi Vieros. If you have Red-eyed on your World list we don't know whether you have seen both new species so the update will be highlighted as before. However, if you have recorded Red-eyed Vireo in the Western Palearctic for example, where Chivi has never occurred, we will update your Western Palearctic list automatically.

If you notice any oddities do let us know.

Thanks for the updates! I noticed one slight bug though, the Everett's White-eye reshuffle didn't appear in the automatic updates. Mainland populations are now mostly in Swinhoe's White-eye. You can select this option if you change the species manually though.

Ah yes, a confusing one! IOC don't explicitly list Everett's White-eye as an update at www.worldbirdnames.org/updates/species-updates/ , and still have it described as "Thailand to Philippines" but also calling it a Philippine endemic!

Subspecies tahaensis and wetmorei are now part of Hume's Z. auriventer. I don't think any populations are part of Swinhoe's Z. simplex?

Woops! And I've just added more confusion into the confusion! I think it's because in the automatic updates I got the option to have Hume's/Sangkhar/Indian for Oriental instead of Swinhoe's/Sangkhar/Indian, so I got Swinhoe's and Hume's confused.

It's all very messy!

I think that's correct: Swinhoe's is a split from Japanese (now Warbling) Z. japonicus, whereas Oriental has been split into Hume's, Sangkar and Indian.
