Heard-only + month/year

Hi there,

I have been using Bubo for quite some years now and really like it, except for one thing. I would really like an extra column just for ticking heard-only's. In that way, you could easily see how many species you have worldwide and how many of that are heard-only. I wonder how many of you would also appreciate such an extra column as well. Another small thing: would it be possible to just tick the month and year, and not the exact date? What I do know is putting 00 / 0000 as a note, but that isn't ideal of course. Any solution for that? Many thanks!

Whilst it wouldn't be difficult to add a checkbox on each record for heard-only, there are lots of different opinions for how to count them in totals. Some people count them, some do not. Some people include them on year lists but not life lists, or country lists but not world lists for example. This can soon get too confusing. If we were to implement it then I don't think we'd do anything more than include a figure in brackets, and totals would still always include heard onlys.

It's still a fair bit of effort to include the extra total of heard onlys, so we'd only considering doing this if many more people thought it useful compared to those who aren't bothered! Please do comment here if you have an opinion.

Regarding dates it is not possible to enter zero for day or month (few databases allow this) so the best option is to use an approximate date (e.g. first of the month, or first of January for the year) and enter a suitable comment: bubo.org/143-faq-frequently-asked-questi...or-my-sightings.html .

I have no strong opinion other than that I would love it if there would be a checkbox 'heard-only'. I keep track of it myself for my WP- and lifelist with the comment option, but to have it automated would be really nice. If we get a figure in brackets as an added bonus, I'd really like that too!
