All my (Eurasian) whimbrels have disappeared!

Whimbrel has vanished from all my lists, including all my year lists and my life list. Possibly some sort of bug caused by adding Hudsonian back into the lists? Obviously, as they are non-rarities, I could add them back, but as I don't keep any record of any of my year lists except on here, I am not a happy bunny right now, as I have no record to tell me for certain whether I saw them in a particular year.

Hi Elizabeth

They haven't disappeared. Whimbrel has been split into Eurasian and Hudsonian (American) species. You just need to go to each list and say which one (or two) of them should be on each list now.

This is what happens every time species get split or lumped. Details on how BUBO implements this - and what you need to do - are given here

Admittedly, in a case like this it's a bit of a pain for British listers with lots of year lists, most of which will involve Eurasian Whimbrel. Perhaps we could come up with a better solution in cases like this, and do the updates for you. But this is the way we've done it for years and it mostly seems to work.

Note that if you've seen a Black-eared Wheatear ever, you'll need to do the same, to say whether they were Western or Eastern Black-eared Wheatear

Best wishes

I think I had 39 lists to sort out the whimbrels on so yes, it would be great if you could come up with a way of making such things easier. Fortunately only a few of my lists have Black-eared Wheatear on and you seem to have factored in the ranges which helps a lot, same with Maghreb Owl.
And well done for getting the updates ready so quickly.

On reflection, I'll try to sort most of these out at the back end for folks - apologies to people like Steve (and me!) that have done a load of manual Whimbrel updates...

Hopefully all Whimbrels on BOU lists (over 5,000 cases) have been dealt with now. I've assumed all relate to Eurasian, and where the comments field also specifically mentioned Hudsonian I've added those too. Probably sensible to double-check though if you're worried - easy for me to make mistakes. Contact listing@bubo.org if you notice a mistake and we'll sort it.
