Hi,

IOC 13.1 has arrived! Any idea when this will be implemented on this site?

Best regards,

Pieter de Groot Boersma

Will the split of Lesser Sand Plover be added soon, or have to wait for IOC 14?

It will be done when the next IOC version is published, which won't be until July at least.

IOC publish updates twice a year. Until then any changes aren't treated as official.

They did just add 60 species last week, so I'm sure you can wait a while for a few more!

Hi Carol

Thanks very much for the kind comments. It does take a long time to apply the updates from IOC and eBird when they are published, and that means a day at the computer when I could be out birding! It's nice to feel that it is appreciated!

Thirded. Bubo is a fantastic resource, and much appreciated by a lot of birders. Thanks Mike!

Fourthed! I don't think that we spend enough time on positive things and praise these days.
Thanks for all the effort and work, very much appreciated!

Fifthed. I love the way the checklist changes are pretty much instantaneous - with an actual enthusiastic person inputting the data for us to be able to update our lists against. Everything else is spot on too. Cheers!

Hi Mike, thanks for all your hard work!

I could be wrong, but it seems that the total species number is not updated to the latest IOC list. When I look in my World List under 'Family List', the total is 10980. But in IOC 13.1 the total is 11140 species. So the percentages of seen species could not be correct.

Cheers,
Thijs

Ah well spotted, the numbers in each family that are shown on the Family List are incorrect. I'll look into this.

Actually, this is correct after all! The total given is the "species available" which excludes extinct species, and explains why the number of species we show as "available" in each family is not the total number of species in the family according to IOC. For example, we show 166 species of Anatidae available, whereas there are 174 in total, including 8 extinct.
