Mistletoe Tyrannulet Missing

13 Jan 2020 14:25 #1 by Matthew Koch
Hello,

One does not often encounter an error on Bubo Listing. However, on the AOU list for North and Central America, mistletoe tyrannulet, split rather recently in the dissolution of paltry tyrannulet, does not appear, though Guatemalan tyrannulet of that complex does.

Thanks very much,

Matthew Koch

Hi Matthew - thanks for your message. Apologies if we're missing something, but it looks like the current online checklist only contains one species of Zimmerius tyrannulet. They've called it Paltry, we still had it as Guatemalan (now changed to Paltry). But I don't see a split to Mistletoe there - unless it's very recent? Please advise.

Best wishes

Andy

Dear Andy:

Thanks for your message and the correction. The split of paltry tyrannulet into four species has been accepted by Clements and HBW, but not the AOU, one of the rare cases of divergence between Clements and the AOU.

Thanks for all your work maintaining this very helpful site,

Matthew Koch
