'bouncing' lists

22 Jan 2009 02:57 #1 by Keith Taylor
When creating the British Columbia list, I would hit the SAVE button and the page just completed would bounce back. I tried several times to move forward with the same results. I finally deleted the list and started over and was successful the second time. When attempting to create a Vancouver list, I had the same results (then tried making a BATCH list attachment) and failed and gave up after TOOOOO MANYYYY attempts. Very frustrating!!!!

Hi Keith

Sorry to hear about this. Sounds an odd one that no-one else has reported but good that you've notified us so we can try to fix it for you and stop it happening for others. Mike's the whizz on this, but it's the middle of the night in Bangalore so I'll try to get the ball rolling by making sure we've got our facts straight on the problem...

I'm presuming you've gone to Create New List and tried to make a new BC life list. You've then filled in a load of species and hit save at the bottom of page 1 of 10. Did you then get to the second page of species, then third, etc etc, and only fail on the final save? Or was it after a particular subset of the species?

Also, what operating system (Windows XP, Vista, etc) are you using, and what internet brower (Int Explorer, Firefox, etc). This might give us clues.

Sorry again for the hassle!

Andy

I found that just ticking the species and going back to add comments after the list was complete was the way to avoid 'bouncing' (i.e the page not going forward when clicking SAVE).

The BC life list was created successfully after deleting the fist attempt, but the newly created Vancouver Island list was a failure. The problem arose on or about the third page on both checklists. I clicked save at the bottom to move forward to the next page but the one that was just completed 'bounced' back with the ticks removed (i.e. the list would not move forward). I then made an attempt to add the missing pages (species) with the bulk addition system, again failure. I have a Mac, could this be of any concern?

Hi Keith

I'm afraid I'm at a bit of a loss to explain this! (It's certainly not a Mac problem though - although we can't test ourselves on a Mac we do have a few other Mac users who haven't reported the problem.) Is it possible that you remained on the same page for a long time, i.e. a few hours - maybe going away and doing something else before coming back to it? There is a chance that your session can expire over a long period, although this should actually give an error message so it doesn't quite sound like the problem you add. The fact that it worked fine when you just ticked the species and added comments later (via Batch Edit), meaning that the original page completion on Create New List would have been quite quick, does suggest this may be a possibility though.

Hi!

I was on the page for perhaps 10-12 minutes so this might be the problem. However, the solution has been found.

Keith

Well it would have needed to be hours rather than minutes for this to be the problem, but as long as it is working now anyway!
