Irish list updated

Hi all

The Irish Rare Birds Committee has provided an updated list of Irish birds at www.irbc.ie/topbar/categories.php . The baselist for Irish bird lists on BUBO Listing has now been updated in accordance with this.

As it happens, there were relatively few changes of note. Several species that were previously included on the list used by BUBO Listing have now been categorised as Category D, and so are no longer available. The only species affected in this way that had been recorded by any BUBO Listers was Baikal Teal, which has now been removed from the two lists concerned.

Best wishes

Andy

Hi Andy,
Baikal Teal is already on Category D of the Irish list, courtesy of a bird at Crom, Co. Fermanagh on 13th Jan 1967. The bird which would have been included in someone's Irish list on here was a male that was at the Belfast Harbour Estate from late January to early February in 2006, a record which has yet to be formally categorised, and which falls within the juristiction of the NIBARC.
Of course, this, too, may only make Category D...time will tell...but the new IRBC Irish list doesn't refer to the provenance of this individual.

Ah, good point, thanks Harry. Still, to be consistent with what we've done elsewhere, we don't make a species available for listing purposes if it has been classified as D already, even on the basis of new individuals, until such new individuals get a categorisation upgraded to A. We only add pending species where no decision at all has been taken (and generally only where we feel it is fairly uncontentious). Sorry to the two Irish listers who had this bird chopped from their lists - you'll have to cross your fingers on the formal assessment of the Belfast bird!

Cheers

Andy
