My 1972 edition of The Observer's Book of Birds has a page for Pied Wagtail and a separate page for White Wagtail. It's been annoying me for 49 years that the BOU British List does not allow both to be counted.

Thanks Mike, the only other thing that I find annoying is that the Iberian Chiffchaff is fine but not the Siberian.

The intergrade zone between Siberian Chiffchaff and Common Chiffchaff is vast. One day all the Chiffchaffs, like Redpolls, will be back under one species.
