... has been added as a provisional species to the Texas state checklist, and the ABA Checklist, in BUBO Listing.

Congratulations to all who have seen it: first for the US and a nice start to the New Year!

It appears that this might have been a slightly hasty decision since recent discussions on the TexBirds mailing list have now questioned the identification of the bird, present since mid December. There appears to be more than one tricky empidonax flycatcher there, e.g. see Martin Reid's comments .

We'll watch and wait, but might have to remove it from BUBO Listing in the future...
