When species get added?

02 Nov 2023 14:23 #1 by Nigel Sluman
Hi all,

Just wondering if there's a page or post that can notify me when the new species lists become available for the PSL?

I just checked back and found that Fish and Moths were added, but not all moth families yet?

Thanks,

Nige

If you are on Facebook, there is a PSL group, and updates normally get posted there:

Sorry John I should've been clearer. I meant when new species\species lists are added to Bubo? ie I can see macro moths have been added, is there a way i can be notified when the micro ones are available to add to my PSL list? And vascular plants etc?

Thanks,

Nige

It would help if a notification were put on here too, or the original PSL site perhaps. It would save having to keep opening the list to check. I suspect I'm not alone in not using Facebook.

The BUBO account on Twitter has notifications of each new update.

It's a fair point. Twitter is generally my weapon of choice for info dissemination, whilst we've also been trying to keep up with announcing the new groups on the Pan Species Listing Facebook group. However, you're right that it would be handy to include updates in this Forum too, which I'll try to do better at!

Now that I know it is there the Twitter (X) posts are a good way of doing it.
Out of interest, surprised the birds haven't been added as an easy hit that could be copied over from British lists already on BUBO.

Re the birds, very astute. It's a deliberate delay, as we realised that if we started with them, the top targets feature would be filled with uber-rare but well-twitched birds, and this would swamp other taxa for a while, whilst we were getting things started. As it is, some of my personal top targets are currently things like Walrus and Death's-head Hawkmoth, popular with twitchers but hardly the commonest things I should have seen by now!

But yes, we'll bring the birds in before too long, and we'll check that we can do a 'Combine Lists' successfully, so you won't need to add them all directly.
