Heard-only birds are not counted.  My list includes only birds seen in the Lower 48; I have not birded Canada, Alaska, or Hawaii.  My ABA Area Life List should be at 674, but African Collared Dove, an extirpated exotic now countable under ABA rules, cannot be added retroactively to this website’s checklist.
