I got my first interest in birds as a seven year old but only started to watch birds seriously as a 16 year old and have therefore been birding for 50 years. My main focus up to the point my children had left school was birding locally in Northumberland and around the UK and Europe when possible. I first started to birdwatch more widely across the world around 2012.
I enjoy finding and identifying my own birds but i do carry out some twitching when possible. My local patch is the River Clwyd in Rhyl,North Wales.
Birdwatching for over 45 Years.
Birding since I was a kid - a long time ago!
Primarily an arachnologist, part time birder, so obviously non-competitive! Ran the Aberystwyth Natural History Society for two academic years at uni, and that's where I got into birding. I had wanted to get into the hobby since I was a boy because of the accessibility of birds and the social side, but it was discovering the accumulation aspect that got me hooked! I currently live in Bournemouth, but go birding mostly in Hampshire.
None of my lists include species that were heard only.

A bird watcher fascinated by bird migration and excited by the identification of birds both by jizz and detailed in-hand examination. I enjoy local birding with the occasional trip further afield and I am a qualified BTO bird ringer

Started birding (or at least nest finding !) when I was 8, and have been involved in birding/conservation ever since. I was largely brought up in central/west Norfolk and 'cut my birding teeth' in the Fens (Wisbech Sewage Farm was still active in those days), at Snettisham and along the north Norfolk coast. I have travelled fairly extensively both for work and on birding trips. I currently largely divide my time between Leeds and south London (plus some SE Asia) where I work as an Ecologist/Ornithologist/Environmental Consultant.

A birder since 1987, occasional twitcher. Always do some birding when abroad, but have never been abroad for birding only. Rarities found myself and accepted include the first Tawny Pipit for Fairburn Ings RSPB, Little Bunting at Loch Ruthven RSPB, Allen's Gallinule and American Bittern at Erjos Ponds, Tenerife accepted by the Spanish Birds Rarities Committee via Tony Clarke.
Birding since I was in a pushchair. Thanks due to a father that instilled a thorough grounding in all things birdy.
Was encouraged not to go to Scilly until I could id 300 species. Twitching on and off since the mid 80's. Now most time spent ringing and training ringers.
Norfolk Listing is my main interest now as far as birding goes and got lots of tarts ticks still missing !!
A newbie to the twitching scene!
