South African List

Can someone please tell me what has happened to Livingstones Touraco (livinstonii) and Yellow-crowned Canary (flavivertex) which appear on the World List but not South Africa's list?
Corinna Smart is having difficulty locating Red-backed Mannikin (nigriceps), which isn't surprising, can the bubo team please mail her and inorm her it has been lumped under Black-and-White Mannakin (bicolor) which is where I have placed my records after some frantic research. Hope this helps.

I did just double-check the ABC South African list available at www.africanbirdclub.org/countries/checklists/index.html , which is the one we use on BUBO Listing, and can confirm that neither of these two taxa are included by the ABC. Perhaps someone with more knowledge can post details of the taxonomic treatment of these?

Hi Mike, Have done some more research and it appears that Yellow-crowned Canary 'flavivertex'
has become Cape Canary 'canicollis'. Livingstone's Touraco could well be lumped with Knynsa.
If Corinna has more queries on SA birds for me I have no problem with you passing on my email address.

Surely both Livingstone's Turaco and Yellow-crowned Canary are extra-limital as regards South Africa and that will be why they are not on a SA list.

Hi Steve, Yes Yellow-crowned Canary appears to occur in highlands of central and east Africa, so not on South African list. It would seem I have been suffering from some name confusion with my south and east African records.
Livingstones Turaco does occur on Cape Vidal where I saw it, which as you say is at the edge of its range here, it is treated as a species in the revised SASOL guide and both Clements and the IOC. However can't count it on my SA list by ABC or whoever?

Having had another query regarding Livingstone's Turaco we have just added it to the South Africa list - it is on the complete ABC Africa list and so is presumably recognised by ABC as a full species, and it does occur in South Africa.

Also added as provisional are Rock Dove/Feral Pigeon and Kimberley Pipit which we presume will be added to the ABC South Africa list when it is next updated by ABC.

Thats brilliant thanks. I spent several hours at the Kimberley site with a native guide but for the Pipit it was a no show.
