An avid birder for over 50 years, I have lived and birded in the states of Vermont, Colorado, California, Illinois, Indiana, and West Virginia. I've also birded extensively throughout much of the rest of the United States as well as taken pelagic trips off Southern California (three) and North Carolina (three). I started birding internationally in 2005 and have gone on birding trips to Kazakhstan, United Arab Emirates and Oman, Tunisia, Gambia and Senegal, Yemen (including Socotra) and Djibouti, Honduras, Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Colombia, Jamaica, and Panama. I've also done some casual birding in the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Bahamas.

Started birding Christmas 1976 when I was given my first pair of bins. Had the foresight to start listing birds I had seen on January 1 1977. My first birding trips away from my native Leicestershire were to North Norfolk where I was fortunate to stay at Nancy's. Happy days. Had an ideal local patch in Cadeby Quarry (sadly now much restored back to farmland). First twitch was the 1982 Marmora's Warbler, three of us in my MG was a little short on space. I was a Scilly regular until 2004. I worked for Point Reyes Bird Observatory in California for five field seasons in the nineties. I have lived in Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Norfolk, Suffolk, Cheshire, Flintshire and now Denbighshire. Five favourite birds Waxwing, Swallow, Nuthatch, Dipper and Grey Wagtail and Varied Thrush (six then) and Wheatear (seven then). Five favourite birding locations Bryher, Bolinas Lagoon, North Norfolk coast, outer Point Reyes and Mallorca. Five best UK twitches, Kenidjack Yellow throated Vireo, Holkham Red breasted Nuthatch, Lunsford Park Golden winged Wabler, The Needles Alpine Accentor and Nottingham Cedar Waxwing and now Royal Tern at Llandudno (nice to get a mega so close to home)

Started my bird lists on 1.1.1987 - but carried forward a Buff-breasted Sandpiper from 1986. Most birding is within a short drive of Portishead these days; although the south coast beckons occasionally now petrol is a bit cheaper.
Prefer to spend time on Walton Common during the summer (Butterflies and Plants) where I am volunteer warden for this Avon Wildlife Trust reserve.

Not interested in chasing around the country just to get a tick. There's nothing like walking the countryside and just when you least expect it you find something to make your day - and you often do if you just take the time to stand still and enjoy.

Started my list from scratch in 1998 and began twitching in 1999. Unfortunately I don't get as much time birding as I would like. I am currently studying for a Sports Science degree which takes up a lot of my time. Lived in Cambridgeshire for 4 years now and find the local birdwatchers to be very friendly and helpful.

I like to think that I'm half decent birder but still get caught out by iffy gulls and dodgey ducks. I am a self-employed quizzes writer and as such can manage to get out a couple of times a week usually in and around East and West Sussex.

I first became interested in birds when I spotted a nuthatch in my garden several years ago. Having learned to identify the more common garden birds, I began heading out into the countryside near Wythall where I live to see what I could find.

A chance encounter with a group of birders in Devon four or five years ago opened my eyes to the world of waders and seabirds, but it was a trip to Islay in May 2006 that prompted me to get some decent binoculars and a scope, and to start listing the species I had seen.

Although not immune to the odd twitch, I try to avoid chasing totals and instead concentrate on honing my birding skills and enjoying the simple pleasures of being out in the field.

In 2008 I set up Worcestershire Source, a free reference point for bird sightings in the county of Worcestershire, which I now run with the help of my good friend Kay Donaghy. I also have a blog called Eye To The Telescope, where I write about my birding adventures.
