Previous life as a publican raising kids etc meant just occasional twitching but been pretty full on for the last 20 years incuding 3 years of fairly manic yearlisting 2005-7,I'm better now though,Finally managed to break the 500 barrier on my British list in 2020 - can’t stop now!
I have only been birdwatching for 5 years , so still very much a novice .
Sarted Birding about Sept 2007 but am keen to learn, still finding variations confusing.
Other main interest is aviation so if it flies I watch it.

Started birding in 1994 after the Northridge Earthquake quickly ruined my fish tank hobby, Living in Ventura Co. Ca. and having some great birding areas around I got hooked, Pt. Mugu will always be my favorite spot, Coastal marsh produced many shorebirds, Waterfowl, and many others, Getting 100 species in a day was easy, I knew every hill and creek in Simi Valley where I lived, 200 species in the Ventura/Conejo Valley Christmas count was normal, Now 60 is a great number where I live in the border of Il. and Iowa (For Christmas counts that is)
I have 3 stepkids, One of my own, A wife of 11 years, and work for the Parks Dept half the year, and in NY working next to the Hudson the other half.
Regularly guide clients for birding and busy building a tourist lodge at the moment. Also on the board of the newly formed Rwanda Birding Association

I am a twag (twitchers wife/ girlfriend) starting my list in August 2010 so as to not feel left out. Perhaps one day i could become the female 'Bagsy' !!?? ;-)
Still a work in progress! I have been though a lot of old notebooks and spreadsheets, but looking at my target list there are still plenty to add!
I am a lister and proud of it. I don't care what those others think or say !!! Listing may be a source of mirth, even for quite close family and friends but I've been open about my bird listing for many years, be it World, Western Palearctic , UK , County, local patch, day , holiday and umpteen other permutations. There are quite a few non-natural history lists I care about too but we wont go into them here. I just love listing. I recently asked my Grand kids if they though it was possible for me to see a million species before I died - across all forms of nature - trees, fish, insects the lot and we are talking world wide. They reckoned it was possible.
What a challenge and incentive to get out there. This Pan-Species Listing Site, even though it is limited to the UK, looks like a great place to start.
Hi, I’ve been a birder for 30 years and get a real kick out of seeing scarce and rare birds. Most of my birding tends to take place around London and the neighbouring counties, Essex, Kent and occasionally Suffolk and Norfolk. A bit od a hit-and-miss practitioner of the dark art of digiscoping but sometimes get a decent image!
Most likely to be found at Leighton Moss, Brockholes, Saltholme, Bempton or North Ronaldsay...

I have been birding for 25 years but being in the Royal Navy, it has been fragmented and variable. This year I am Hants listing and looking forward to my first ever 200 Hants birds in a year
My first UK rarity was a Lesser White-fronted Goose at Slimbridge in 1973. I started a proper notebook in 1981 and moved to Canada in 2003. Now I am in Nova Scotia living on the rarity hot spot of Cape Sable Island - yay!
